Yesterday’s food drive brought in nearly 250 pounds of donations! Stay tuned for details on our March 30 event! Yesterday, half of the donations were from vacationers and half from locals (some in cans, which, granted, weigh more). Items donated to St. Jerome’s Lifeline food pantry included everything from an unopened stick of butter (accepted!) to a bag of chips (also accepted). I’m hugely grateful to my cheerful and helpful sign-waving, food-accepting volunteers; sponsors and friends Publix, Slyce Pizza Bar and Plumlee Vacations, and of course to the donors, including vacation rental owners Brett Barrett (pictured above) and Shane Montoya (also a volunteer!). All volunteers were crucial, but I must mention our celebrity, incoming IRB mayor Denise Houseberg. Meanwhile, commissioner candidate Suzanne Gibson helped post fliers all over town! Speaking of celebs, thanks for the promotion, TrashCaulin! Thanks also to the locations that allowed us to stage there: Reef Club condos, PJ’s Oyster Bar and Sea Gypsy Beach Shop & Rentals. You’re the best! Everyone involved has my deepest gratitude. We reduced waste and helped feed people in need! That’s our mission here at Vacation Donations!
